Welcome back to the “Bullet Journal 101” series!
Today is the first official day of the series, where you’ll learn about the actual supplies you’re going to need. While you might want to eventually pick up some other items, the following list provides everything you need to get started.
Buy Your Journal or Notebook
The first thing to get is of course the journal itself. For beginners, you don’t need to worry about the type of journal or notebook you get. It’s not uncommon to eventually upgrade to a different type of book when you get a handle on bullet journaling and have more ideas.
For now, look around and find something that feels right.
Keep in mind your budget, since you have more supplies to buy. Don’t spend nearly your entire journaling budget on the journal itself. Starting with a basic notebook is absolutely fine!
Your Bullet Journal Notebook Options Include:
– Spiral notebook
– Soft or hardcover journal
– Journal specifically made for bullet journaling
– Planner converted into a bullet journal
One thing that’s good to consider when you buy the bullet journal is the size and the types of pages. You might be using different types of pens and embellishments, so something with thicker pages is often better. Also try to choose a journal that has at least some completely blank pages without lines so they don’t get in the way of any doodles or calendar spreads you create.
Don’t Forget the Writing Utensils
The next decision to make is what writing utensils you’ll buy. Again, this will depend on what you like writing with and how creative you want to get. You really don’t need more than a single pen you enjoy writing with, but you might eventually want to get different varieties. It is good to have colored pens when you’re writing different sections or grids on a page, in order to organize them easily.
Also, having some pencils and erasers on hand is good when setting up pages for the first time, so that you can erase your mistakes.
Additional Bullet Journaling Supplies
When you start putting your bullet journal together, you’ll see how a few other supplies could come in handy. Keep in mind that these are all optional, but some other bullet journaling supplies to consider are:
– Washi tape
– Correction tape/whiteout
– Binder clips
Now it’s time to get cracking’! Have fun gathering your favorite bullet journaling supplies.
